Sunday, July 17 Dana and I had the great honor of being commissioned by Community Bible Church in High Point, North Carolina. One of our greatest joys over the past few months has been God’s reminder to us of how loved and supported we are by this body of redeemed sinners we call CBC!

We moved to High Point roughly 15 years ago from Thomasville. After getting married, we began attending the church I grew up in, Mt. Zion Wesleyan in Thomasville where we were living at the time. We loved that church and had many wonderful friends there. After we moved to High Point, we gradually become less and less involved due to the 45 minute commute. One Sunday afternoon we realized, we had to find a church closer to home. It is SO important to be plugged into a good church where you find community, can grow and be challenged, and where you can serve well. After realizing our service at Mt. Zion was fading due to the distance, the next week we began our search.

Let me just say, searching for a church is NOT FUN!! If you’ve ever been involved in looking for a new church home, It can be a miserable experience. Walking into a new place where you are completely unknown is daunting, especially for an introvert like me. Our first several attempts did not go well. It felt like Goldilocks and the three bears, we struggled to find a church that felt just right. Fast forward about 3 months…

When we walked through the doors at CBC we were greeted by a couple who are now good friends, as are so many at CBC. Their smiles were so warm and inviting and we were encouraged by the racial and generational diversity we saw. We also noticed the flags of many nations hanging from the ceiling as we entered indicating CBC’s heart for the nations and global missions. We learned rather quickly that CBC gives 20% of their budget to missions each year. The Worship was very professional and invited us to leave everything at the door and welcome the Holy Spirit to do what He would and the preaching was Biblical!! Finally, after lots of discomfort in about four different churches we visited, we had found a place we definitely wanted to come back to…. So we did. The next week, and then another, and another, until after several months we realized we were home!

Dana served in the choir and on several committees over the years and I, naturally began serving in the student wing! It wasn’t long before we made the jump into membership and CBC officially become our home church. We never looked back. The church, as many of you may know, has been through many highs and lows over the past 15 years, but we never once considered leaving. It was and will always be our home church!!

We are so incredibly grateful for the many ways CBC has provided us support over the past few months during our transition into full-time service with Crossover Global (a global church-planting organization with a US base in Columbia, SC). It was so encouraging to have 100+ CBC’ers show up for a luncheon following the services to send us out loved and supported. You literally can’t see us in the picture because of all the folks gathered around, but we are there in the middle of it all. What a special day. I want to personally say a HUGE thank you to Kim Lehmann the Global Missions Director and the whole Global Outreach Team for organizing such a special day. Thanks to the support of CBC and so many of it’s members and attenders, we have over 80% of our support raised! I am confident that God will provide that last 20% in the coming days!! He is SO good, and CBC in High Point will always be our home church.

I’m excited to say He is providing us with new connections. We have found a church that is beginning more and more to feel like a new home to us. We can only pray that God will give us just as many friendships and support from Grace Life Church over the next 15 years as He has over the past 15 years at CBC! Thanks to ALL …. We LOVE YOU and miss you already more than you could know!!
